Our Club has a number of projects on the go both independently and in conjunction with other local groups.  If you have a project you need help with or think we might like, please contact us to talk it through.

Love Grace Handbag Appeal

Love Grace Appeal 2025

What an amazing effort Mangawhai.  Over 70 handbags full of items, destined for Women's Refuge.  Thank you to the Rural Women's group in Tomarata and also Zonta Mangawhai who both donated many bags.

Picnic Table Project

Picnic Tables at Alamar Reserve

With the assistance of grants from the KDC Reserve Fund and the Lions Clubs Lloyd Morgan Charitable Trust, we have been able to provide an additional 4 picnic tables at the Alamar Reserve.  Installed 5th Dec 2024.

We would also like to thank local contractors, Clinton Rogers from CHR Builders and Zayne Cave from Sculpt It, for their assistance in ground prep and concrete pad prep.  Thank you also to Placemakers and Bunnings for their donations of goods for the concrete pad prep.

Sandsational

Sandsational was held a week late on Sunday 2nd Feb at the Heads Beach. (Due to the Tornado the previous week)  

Sand sculpture competition.
Fancy dressed dog and owner competition.
Drop-the-Golf Ball raffle.
Seriously BIG prizes.

by the Tornado.

2025 Calendar

This 2025 Calendar features views of Mangawhai taken by local amateur photographers. Many of the images were place winners in our Photography competition held earlier in the year.


$8,500 was donated to Mangawhai Surf Lifesaving to assist with the repair of their club rooms, badly damaged by Cyclone Gabrielle.

Thank you to Mangawhai Lions and our local community for sharing the vicion and perseverance towards getting our clubhouse back in working order.  We are thankful for the commitment shown by our supporters and truly grateful for all the messages of help.

The proceeds from the calendars is greatly appreciated and will go towards the consultants cost of the contract work in repairing the slip, which is essential in getting our clubhouse operational again.  This is our priority whilst providing education, emergency response and care to our community.

Asparagus Fern Eradication Project

Working with the Piroa Trust Weed Action group to help tackle the Asparagus Fern at the Mangawhai Community Park.  We meet on Mondays on the boardwalk behind the Club, 10:30 to 12pm.  Tools are provided.  Any help greatly appreciated. For further information contact Martina 0274 490 464.

Can Recycling Project

We recycle between 90kg to 120kg of aluminum cans each month from our recycling cage at MAZ. 
Recycling cage was donated by Marsden Metals and is gratefully appreciated.
Proceeds from this project go to MAZ to assist with on-going maintenance costs associated with the playground.
For large deposits of cans please call Allan 0274 525 307 or Mandy 021 419 224 and we can come and open the cage for you!

Daffodil Day Trivia Night Fundraiser
with the Club Mangawhai.

Working with the Club we hosted a fun trivia night and silent auction to raise funds for cancer.  The theme of the night was "dress in YELLOW" with prizes awarded for best dressed.

A fun night that raised good funds towards Cancer charities in New Zealand.

Pink Ribbon High Tea 2024

18 May 2024

Mangawhai Lions Club and Zonta Mangawhai partnered together to put on a Pink Ribbon High Tea for 80 guests athe The Mangawhai Fishing Club.
High tea with trivia, raffles and best dressed prizes and lots of fun.

$2950 was raised for Pink Ribbon

Grace Milane Handbag Appeal

Locals donated around 40 handbags filled with toiletries, cosmetics and other useful items, to be given to Womens Refuges around NZ in memory of Grace Milane.  Thanks to the Hospice Shop in the Village and the Op Shop in the Heads who acted as drop off points for us.
